April is nationally recognized as a time to celebrate sociocultural diversity and value native peoples. Indigenous Peoples' Day, April 19th, carries a meaning that goes beyond the symbolic sphere. It poses a time/space for consolidating rights, recognizing sociocultural diversity, and strengthening the historical struggles of Indigenous peoples in Brazil.

In this context, the seminar "Indigenous April: Knowledge, Rights and Public Policies" is a strategic opportunity to articulate official information and data, territory, and public policies. It is within this framework that the partnership between UFPA (Federal University of Pará) and the IBGE is established, uniting academic production and the official statistical database of the Brazilian State around a common goal: to improve access to information and strengthen its use in the territories by the Indigenous peoples of the Brazilian Amazônia.

Access to data produced with standardized and robust methodologies on Indigenous peoples becomes crucial to this process, as it allows not only an understanding of the complex reality, but also guides decisions and supports concrete actions in the fields of public management, research, and social advocacy, aiming at compensating Indigenous peoples for the denial of rights and citizenship.

The IBGE databases, especially those related to the demography, territory, and socioeconomic living conditions of Indigenous peoples, constitute today a highly relevant informational asset. However, their potential is only fully accomplished when these data are held by the collective subjects to whom they refer and by those who act directly in the defense of their rights and the assurance of their existence.

Thus, this event, resulting from a partnership between the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), within the scope of the "Enraizando a Posse Plena (Rooting Full Ownership)" Program of the Rector's Office, and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), through the State Superintendency in Pará, proposes to present tools and platforms for geospatial information and data. And consequently, to foster the construction of hub for dialogue and mediation of knowledge, for critical reading of reality, for territorial planning, and for strengthening the autonomy and consolidation of Indigenous peoples.

By bringing together public institutions, organizations, indigenous students, and the university, the initiative reaffirms its commitment to contextualized, accessible knowledge production committed to social justice and the sustainability of territories.

Those interested in participating in person must register through the IBGE Store by April 26th.

The event will be streamed online via Digital IBGE.
