On Friday (10), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) carried out an institutional visit to the governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra, in Natal, with the aim of showing strategic innovation projects developed by the Institute.
The IBGE delegation was led by the president of the Institute, Marcio Pochmann, and included the participation of the state superintendent, Fabiana Fábrega and Rivaldo Fernandes, president of Instituto Pensar RN.
Among the topics of the meeting were the presentation of the IBGE´s innovation projects, tests using administrative records — including electronic invoices — and the arrival of the Casa Brasil IBGE project in the state.
During the meeting, the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, highlighted the importance of institutional cooperation and the use of qualified data to improve public management: “The partnership between the IBGE and the government led by Fátima Bezerra reaffirms that quality data, innovation and institutional cooperation are decisive pillars for more efficient, transparent public planning oriented to the real needs of the population.”
The superintendent of the IBGE in the state, Fabiana Fábrega, highlighted the countless possibilities for partnerships with the local government. “We talked about the use of electronic invoices, the state's experience in the Census of the Population Experiencing Homelessness, holding joint events, among other dialogues. The dialogue defined by the governor was a step forward, especially due to the proximity of the Secretariat of Planning to the IBGE and the helpful attitude of secretary Virgínia Ferreira, who has also worked in an office dedicated to statistics,” recalled her.
The governor was accompanied by members of her team, including the Secretary of State for Planning, Budget and Management, Virgínia Ferreira, the Secretary of Administration, Jane Carneiro e Araújo, the Secretary of Federative Affairs, Luciano Santos, and the head of the Civil Cabinet, Raimundo Alves.
The governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra, celebrated the meeting. “It is a strategic opportunity to strengthen government planning, qualify our technical teams and expand the use of official information in decision-making. Moreover, establishing partnerships with federal offices strengthens the federative pact and expands the capacity for local action. In an evidence-driven context, initiatives like this bring institutions closer together, integrate data and make public management more efficient, transparent and aligned with the needs of the population.”
Maria Virgínia Ferreira Lopes, Secretary of State for Planning, Budget and Management (SEPLAN/RN), considers the IBGE to be the largest data center in Brazil, concentrating strategic information that guides decisions and drives national and local development.
“Planning well means taking care of people. And taking care of people requires knowing the reality with data, with responsibility and with public commitment. Casa Brasil IBGE will be opened in the space of the Secretariat of Planning, Budget and Management of Rio Grande do Norte, strengthening our ability to plan based on evidences and using official, reliable and updated data,” said the secretary.
