It gathers information about the social and economic situation of children, teenagers and youngsters in Brazil, based on results mainly obtained from the National Household Sample Survey 1997, and on data provided by the Ministry of Health.

It encompasses the topics of health, education and labor, highlighting the main causes of mortality, the reproductive behavior of teenage women, the schooling characteristics and conditions of activity of this population group, among other aspects.

The indicators also show alternative experiences developed in the Northern part of the country. It points out the importance of creating opportunities for youngsters to find ways of expressing themselves and communicating in their place of origin.

The publication deals, more specifically, with statistics relative to the group between 15 and 19 years of age, due to their social and cultural importance in society.
