Experimental GEO TRADUZIR
Assessment of Brazilian Biodiversity Data
Experimental GEO TRADUZIR
About the publication - 2025
The second edition of the “Assessment of Brazilian Biodiversity Data” is a publication of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) that analyzes the evolution of the production, mobilization, and quality of species occurrence data in Brazil, considering spatial, temporal, and taxonomic aspects, as well as updates and additions to those previously published.
Biodiversity data constitute a strategic resource for scientific research, public policy formulation, and environmental indicators. Its availability and use depend on continuous and structured efforts aimed at preserving its collective character and value for society. In this sense, systematic monitoring, carried out by the IBGE, of the comprehensiveness and access permanence of species occurrence data is fundamental, strengthening science and the governance of environmental information.
This edition is based on observations of national data from nine taxonomic groups that were available in 2025 in the Brazilian System of Biodiversity Information (SiBBr), allowing for a comparison of current results with those analyzed in the first edition of the series, which was compiled from data available in 2022. It is important to emphasize that this work is the result of an investigation still in the experimental phase, even though there have been improvements compared to the previous publication.
