The President of the Central Bank, Gabriel Galípolo, made an institutional visit to the IBGE headquarters in Rio de Janeiro this Wednesday (25) — the first visit by a president of the monetary authority to the Institute's headquarters. He was received by the President of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, the Executive Director, Flávia Vinhaes, and the President's Advisor, Denis Gimenez.

The meeting aimed to identify possibilities for technical partnership between the institutions, with a view to improving sectoral public policies. The initiative seeks to strengthen the use of public information produced by the IBGE in the actions and analyses of the Central Bank.

“It was an honor to receive the President of the Central Bank. He has been an enthusiast for deepening the relationship between the two institutions, based on the technical production that IBGE develops and which contributes to the definition of monetary policy,” said Mr. Pochmann.

The president of the Central Bank highlighted that the institution makes decisions based on data and, in this sense, it is a major user of statistics produced by the IBGE. “We are living through a time of great transformations in the world, which makes it fundamental that this area of surveys be always readily available,” Mr. Galípolo emphasized.

During the meeting, a schedule of future meetings was also defined to address updates to the Quarterly National Accounts System and the Consumer Expenditure Survey (POF), which serves as the basis for calculating the Consumer Price Indices.
