National and International Overview of the Production of Social Indicators
About - National and international overview of the production of social indicators: specific population groups and time use
The reduction of social inequalities in Brazil requires to address demands and assure rights to children and teenagers, young persons, elderly persons, disabled persons, women, black and brown persons and Indian peoples. Due to their particularities, these groups are also targeted in the 2030 Agenda and in the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development as different public policies aiming at establishing basic social rights.
As the coordinator of the construction of the indicators aimed at monitoring the 2030 Agenda and focal point in the organization of the work of the Montevideo Consensus in Brazil, the IBGE has been carrying out a number of activities to support the discussions around these commitments. By systematizing the production of social indicators related to the population groups at stake, this publication is another initiative towards this goal. It should be highlighted that time use is of great value in the analysis of social inequalities, especially in terms of gender, which explains its inclusion in the study.
It is a publication of methodological nature that presents the state of the art of the production of indicators on the selected themes, providing a comprehensive overview of the conceptual approaches, international recommendations and experiences of national statistical offices from other countries and organizations, as well as the experience of the IBGE itself. This initiative aims at deepening the understanding of the production of social indicators on population groups and time use, contributing to pinpoint potential gaps in the thematic approaches and pointing out the next steps to portray Brazil in accordance with the international agendas.
