IBGE releases, on May 20, Estimates of Under-registration of Births and Deaths 2024


The IBGE will release, at 10:00 am on May 20th, the 2024 Estimates of Under-Registration of Births and Deaths. These estimates allow for the evaluation of the coverage of vital events (births and deaths), using statistical modeling based on the matching of databases from the Vital Statistics survey (IBGE) and the Information Systems of Mortality and Live Births - SIM/SINASC (Ministry of Health).

The results presented continue the time series on the subject, which began in 2015, and follow the format of the 2023 release. In that edition, the indicators of under-registration and underreporting disaggregated by Federation Units and Municipalities were unified with the indicators that, until then, had carried the seal of Experimental Statistics and comprised the Complementary Study for the Application of the Capture-Recapture Technique.

This is the second release following this seal removal and this unification, which reinforces the maturity level of the underreporting estimates for all the disaggregations presented.
