The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) will start, in May, the second pilot test of the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture, and another preparatory round of tests to ensure quality and coverage of the survey that will be conducted all over Brazil. For the test, six cities in four Major Regions have been selected to receive the teams.
The open press conference will take place on May 8, 2026, at 9 am, in an online session, as part of the actions of preparation and dissemination of the census operation. The programs includes an opening session with the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, the director of Surveys, Gustavo Junger da Silva, and the coordinator-general of Census Operations, Fernando Damasco, followed by a presentation o the technical and operational project of the second pilot test, conducted by Vando da Paz Nascimento, coordinator of Agricultural Statistics, by the technical manager of the Population Census, Juliana Souza de Queiroz, and by Marta Antunes, manager of Traditional Peoples and Communities and Specific Population Groups.
The pilot tests – which had a first round in December 2025 – are an opportunity to test and improve data collection instruments, operational procedures and logistics capacity in different agricultural contexts, in order to ensure moe effienciency in the execution of Census operations.
