The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) participated, this Thursday (19), in the first day of the Federative Caravan in São Paulo, providing assistance to public managers and representatives of civil society at its own stand. The initiative sought to guide visitors on accessing and using statistical and geoscientific data produced by the Institute.

In the stand, the IBGE staff clarified doubts about survey methodologies, socioeconomic indicators of São Paulo municipalities and ways to access databases. The main channels for disseminating information from the agency were also presented, with practical guidance on their use.

In addition to personalized assistance, the booth featured an interactive kiosk, allowing visitors to consult specific indicators for their municipalities. With the support of staff, the public could explore tools such as the IBGE System of Automatic Data Retrieval (Sidra), the Cities@ channel, and the Interactive Geographic Platform.

The state superintendent of the IBGE in São Paulo, Francisco Garrido Barcia, highlighted the importance of the Institute's participation in the event as a way to strengthen institutional relations with local administrations. "The IBGE participates in the Federative Caravan to report on its activities to municipal governments, taking the opportunity to provide interested parties with data and clarifications relevant to the work carried out by the Institute," he stated.

During the Caravan, institutional materials were also distributed to those present. As a whole, more than 200 kits were handed out to the public on the first day. Among the visitors to the stand, the Deputy Secretary of the Environment of Rio Grande da Serra (SP), Fabio Nakaoka, highlighted the relevance of the information provided by the Institute. “We are always looking for reliable data. The IBGE is a reference in this regard, and the visit to this space was important to access updated information about our municipality,” he concluded.

Opening ceremony was attended by the President, ministers, and municipal leaders

The opening of the Federal Caravan in São Paulo was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin, Minister of Institutional Relations Gleisi Hoffmann, and Minister of Finance Fernando Haddad, as well as other authorities and political leaders.

In his speech, President Lula highlighted the Caravan as a good example of how partnerships are conducted within the federal pact. “The federal government could stay in Brasília. But we came here so that municipal governments can be served. This saves time for the municipalities. The Caravan is important so that municipal managers can monitor, through a direct and in-person channel, the progress of local demands.”

The Minister of Institutional Relations also emphasized the importance of the event. “There are about 60 stands bringing together various federal agencies. We have already visited 16 states, reaching approximately 3,000 municipalities, and now we have arrived in São Paulo to expand this dialogue,” she said. In addition to the opening speeches, two laws were enacted during the ceremony: one aimed at reducing taxes on inputs for companies in the chemical sector, and the other at fostering family farming.

The Federative Caravan brings together more than 30 ministries, local authorities, and federal bodies, with the objective of expanding access to services, programs, and information aimed at states and municipalities. Service at the IBGE stand is provided without the need for scheduling and continues throughout the event days, ending this Friday (20) in the afternoon.
