For the first time ever, the west of Paraná received the Federative Caravan, organized by the Federal Government in Foz do Iguaçu, on October 30 and 31. With workshops and a service desk during the two days of the event, the IBGE registered more than 200 users who sought the services offered by the Institute and prospected partnerships to improve the application and dissemination of surveys in the region.
Elias Ricardo and Sinval dos Santos, from the IBGE's Superintendence in the state, participated in some of the various activities in the Caravan's programming, like the Public Managers' Forum. “In the Federative Caravan, we have the opportunity to meet these mayors and councilors, and society as a whole, [the opportunity] to get to know the IBGE here in practice, in a lighter way, without scheduling,” stated Superintendent Ricardo, remembering that this contact with the population and public managers later facilitates the scheduling of visits by survey agents to collect information.
The event took place at the Mabu Thermas Grand Resort, and was opened with the presence of Wolney Queiroz, Minister of Social Security, and Gleisi Hoffmann, Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations of the Presidency of the Republic, responsible for the federative caravans project, through its Special Secretariat for Federative Affairs.
Bringing agents and citizens closer together
The IBGE operation in the Foz do Iguaçu Caravan involved a large part of the team from the Institute´s unit in the region. Alex Castagnaro, Head of the IBGE Branch in the city, led his colleagues in serving the public at the counter, which included activities that were very different from the routine of going to homes and other establishments in Foz and in the municipalities of Itaipulândia, Matelândia, Medianeira, Missal, Ramilândia, Santa Terezinha de Itaipu, São Miguel do Iguaçu and Serranópolis do Iguaçu.
“We served several authorities outside our operating region, seeking to bring them together and reinforce possible partnerships between teams from other branches, to facilitate the dissemination of the data collection work in their municipalities,” said Castagnaro. Among other benefits, he noted that the Federative Caravan served to ensure that branch colleagues “understood the respect, trust and admiration that the IBGE has in the eyes of the public served at the stand, which is always rewarding.”
Bruna Vieira, who also works at the IBGE Branch in Foz do Iguaçu, assessed that these possible partnerships contribute to more and more people being counted and included in the surveys. According to her, some requests involved quantitative data that can “give representation to several groups not yet officially counted, and support public and private projects.”
During the Federative Caravan, Vieira had the opportunity to carry out a workshop on the resources of the “IBGEeduca” project, which offers materials designed to help teachers and managers work with data from the IBGE's surveys in the classroom. The activity occupied one of the rooms in the hotel's convention area on Friday, October 31.
On the other hand, Castagnaro was responsible for teaching the workshop “Tools for accessing IBGE´s surveys.” The main surveys carried out periodically were presented, like the Population Census, the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) and the Consumer Expenditure Survey (POF), and how to access the data collected.
