Located in the center-south of the Federal District, the Ecological Reserve is an area of scientific interest under the IBGE management. Created in December 1975, it became a reference in environmental information about the Cerrado ever since.

"It was created aiming at producing information about the biodiversity of the Cerrado biome, its threats, anthropic impacts and opportunities of conservation, with the goal of subsidizing sustainable territorial public policies for the region", tells Bergamino.

According to Bergamino, the area is a "reference site" to the conservation of regional biodiversity. Comprising 1,391 hectares, Recor houses a large diversity of ecosystems and protects four thousand species, being 61 endangered species and nearly 91 endemic of the Cerrado biome.

The IBGE´s Ecological Reserve provides researchers with laboratories, lodging and restaurant, as well as basic data and information about the area, by means of the scientific collections, weather station and georreferenced databases. All the activities can be requested through the website.

The Recor website also gathers publications produced by IBGE servants dealing with this subject. "In the future, we plan to provide bibliographic references of the works developed in this area by outside researchers, streamlining the access to these publications", comments Bergamino.

In this video, Mauro Lambert, an IBGE researcher and manager of the Ecological Reserve tells the story of this conservation unit, created in 1975. Read more about the IBGE´s Ecological Reserve in the Retratos Magazine number 3 and in the story about the Recor´s Fire Brigade.
