Helped by nine partner institutions, the IBGE completed the second month of data collection of the Census of Agriculture 2017 and surpassed 2 million properties enumerated. More than 2.2 million establishments were visited up to November 30, about 42% of the total estimated for Brazil.
Partnerships are key to disseminate the Census of Agriculture among producers, streamlining the reception of enumerators in properties and raising awareness of establishment owners on the importance of providing precise answers to enumerators. In return, the IBGE will produce special tabulations for those entities, addressing eventual information needs on the sector.
"These partnerships have never been made for the Census of Agriculture, so this is unprecedented. Produce special tabulations in return is another innovation. Furthermore, they are genuine representations of the sector at national level. We are talking with thousand persons through those entities", explains David Montero, adviser of the Coordination of Census Operation.
The Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives - OCB is one of the partners, representing the cooperatives of rural producers throughout Brazil.
"As a key segment for the Brazilian agriculture, gathering about 1 million rural producers in more than 1.5 thousand cooperatives, it is an essential support for the creation of public policies aligned with the needs of the sector. The Census of Agriculture has an important role for that matter. It will provide more than a picture of the Brazilian agriculture. It will provide a base for the design of an action plan to strengthen the agricultural cooperativism and, therefore, the development of the productive sector in Brazil", complements Marcio Lopes de Freitas, president of the OCB System.

On its turn, the Pensar Agropecuária Institute - IPA gathers 42 entities of the rural sector, discussing strategies for the development of the Brazilian agribusiness and supporting the work of the Agriculture Parliamentary Front - FPA, comprising representatives and senators.
"It is a successful partnership as it supports the IBGE actions in all the productive system, aiming at improving public policies for the agricultural sector, customized for the reality of every producer and region. The Census is a guide to pinpoint the situation in the countryside, its key characteristics and adversities, from micro to large rural workers. This mapping helps in the productivity indexes reached by the agribusiness, access to credit, income distribution, job generation, as well as the appropriate cost of the products paid by Brazilian consumers", comments Fábio de Salles Meirelles Filho, president of the IPA.
In the meantime, the National Confederation of Rural, Agricultural and Family Farming Workers - Contag gathers small producer unions in the entire country for more than 50 years.
"The partnership with the IBGE aims at supporting the Census of Agriculture, a real database that will help us to improve public policies for the Brazilian countryside", stressed Aristides Veras dos Santos, president of Contag.
The IBGE established a total of nine partnerships with different groups of the agricultural sector. Besides the OCB, Contag and the IPA, the other partners are: ANDAV (National Association of Dealers of Agricultural and Veterinarian Inputs), ABAG (Brazilian Association of Agribusiness), Abitrigo (Brazilian Association of Wheat Industry), ABPA (Brazilian Association of Animal Protein), CNA (Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock) and FNP (National Front of Mayors).
"It is all about the IBGE mission. We have a strategic goal, which is 'establish partnerships to foster the use of information produced by the IBGE'. This is what we are doing", concludes David Montero.
