This Friday afternoon (27), a communication pool connected the six cities that will host the 2nd Pilot Test of the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture to the rest of the country for the workshop “Overview and In-depth Exploration in the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture", bringing together more than 900 people.

Barcarena (PA), Uruçuí (PI), Viamão (RS), Corumbá (MS), Rio Verde (GO) and Irati (PR) hosted the event, which marked the beginning of a new step towards the census operation.

During the workshop, the coordinator of the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination and Social Communication (CDDI/CCS), José Daniel Castro, presented the first ad campaign materials for the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture.

The piece was produced in collaboration with Marina Guerra, Pablo Félix de Paiva, Thiago Antunes, José Márcio Rangel, Aluísio Marques, Aline Nakata, Lívia Freitag, Rafael Ruzene, Lorenzo Mello, Adriano Marques, Marcos Filipe Sousa, Fernando Damasco, Cynthia Damasceno, Marta Antunes, Anderson Simionato Milioli, and Juliana Souza de Queiroz.

The opening included a message from the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, who highlighted the importance of the Census. “We will offer fundamental information, not only to identify the countryside, but also to provide input for the country's public policies,” he stated.

“In this second stage, we will have six important cities, and in this sense, I want to thank everyone for their commitment, as they are essential in this journey that prepares us for 2027,” he concluded.

Vando da Paz Nascimento, coordinator of Agricultural Statistics, thanked his colleagues from the superintendencies for their efforts in communicating with society and other partners. “We are aware of the importance of the Census and the need to produce data that allows us to understand the reality of the countryside and the specificities of each territory. This second pilot test boosts even more the work of the IBGE,” he highlighted.

The activities, conducted by specialists from the IBGE's technical team and open to the public, are part of the national mobilization for the 2nd Pilot Test of the survey. The initiative aims to bring the Institute closer to local communities, publicize the importance of the Census, and encourage the participation of rural producers in all stages of the survey.

The opening session also included the participation of the superintendencies that hosted the pilot program. In Uruçuí, in the state of Piauí, the IBGE superintendent, Leonardo Passos, declared of his joy in hosting the workshop. “We have the highest expectations for the Census. This is the initial step. Furthermore, we are excited and the auditorium is full for a special afternoon full of information,” he stated.

Directly from the city of Viamão, in Rio Grande do Sul, the state superintendent, Luis Eduardo Puchalski, highlighted the characteristics of the chosen municipality. “Here we have a large territory, with diverse types of production, such as the largest organic rice production in Latin America, in addition to a large number of traditional communities and peoples,” he emphasized.

In the city of Corumbá, in Mato Grosso do Sul, Herben Kally de Almeida Rex, manager of Planning and Administrative Management at SES, representing the superintendent who is on vacation, thanked the teams present. “You are the foundation of this work, and with your dedication, you made all of this happen. The IBGE has never been afraid of challenges and has always maintained its commitment to portraying Brazil,” he stated.

The superintendent of Goiás, Edson Roberto Vieira, participated from the city of Rio Verde and spoke about the municipality that hosted the workshop. “We are in one of the most important regions for corn and soybean production in the country, with an integrated industry. We are ready to improve our processes and carry out a great Census,” he highlighted.

From the municipality of Irati, in Paraná, superintendent Tobias Faria also emphasized the choice of the city, due to the presence of traditional peoples and communities, especially the faxinais. “The pilot project in Irati, unlike the others that will take place in five other Brazilian cities, focuses on traditional peoples and communities. It is an honor for the IBGE Superintendency in Paraná to host the pilot project and conduct the workshop in the municipality, contributing to the technical and methodological improvement of the Agricultural Census. Furthermore, we have direct contact with the workflows required by the operation,” he stated.

Rony Helder Cordeiro, superintendent in Pará, participated from the city of Barcarena and spoke of his satisfaction in hosting the second pilot test. “The workshops are important for disseminating information generated by the IBGE, but also for raising public awareness about the upcoming Census,” he highlighted.

In the second part of the event, there was the workshop “Overview and In-depth Exploration in the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture”, conducted by specialists from the IBGE technical team. The meeting was divided into four thematic blocks:

• Understanding the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture: what it is, what topics will be investigated, and the new features of the 12th edition;

• Production of traditional peoples and communities: results already available and future perspectives;

• Environmental information: how the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture will address issues related to the environment;

• Data usage and potential: how to access and use the information through the SIDRA system.

The Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture is the main source of information on rural production in Brazil. It guides public policies, supports academic research and provides strategic data for the productive sector.
