IBGE promotes workshop “Overview and Immersion in the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture” in six cities hosting the 2nd Pilot Test

On March 27, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE will hold workshops open to society to present the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture. These activities are part of the mobilization for the 2nd Pilot Test of the survey and aim to bring the Institute closer to local communities, publicize the importance of the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture and encourage the participation of rural producers.
The workshops will take place in Barcarena (PA), Uruçuí (PI), Viamão (RS), Corumbá (MS), Rio Verde (GO) and Irati (PR), cities chosen for this stage of testing.
The program includes the workshop “Overview and Immersion in the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture,” led by experts from the IBGE technical team. The meeting will be divided into four thematic blocks:
- Understand the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture: what it is, which topics will be investigated and what's new in the 12th edition.
- Production of traditional peoples and communities: results already available and future perspectives.
- Environmental information: how the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture will address issues related to the environment.
- Uses and potential of data: how to access and take advantage of information through the SIDRA system.
According to the general coordinator of Census Operations at the IBGE, Fernando Damasco, the Pilot Test is essential to guarantee the quality of data collection: “In addition to checking whether the questionnaire works well, we will test the supervision and quality control of the enumerators' work. The workshops help to publicize the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture and involve rural producers, encouraging them to welcome enumerators and contribute to making the entire operation even better.”

The Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture is the main source of information on rural production in Brazil. It guides public policies, supports academic research and provides strategic data for the productive sector. Participating in the workshops is an opportunity to learn up close how this work is done and to help ensure that the results accurately reflect the reality of the Brazilian countryside.

In the cities of Barcarena, Uruçuí, Viamão, Corumbá and Rio Verde, the program will begin at 2 pm, with a presentation on the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture. At 3 pm, a discussion will be held on traditional peoples and communities. After a break from 3:30 pm to 3:45 pm, the session on environmental information will continue until
4:15 pm. The meeting will end with a presentation on the uses and potential of agricultural data and access to SIDRA, from 4:15 pm to 5:30 pm.
In Irati, the program starts at 2 pm, where an exhibition will be presented on the history of the inclusion of ethnic-racial investigation in the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture. At 3 pm, innovations in the investigation on traditional peoples and communities will be discussed. After the break from 3:30 pm to 3:45 pm, the workshop will continue until 5 pm, with the topic of uses and potential of agricultural data and access to databases.
